Following the departure from the Australian market of Vera & John announced earlier this month, it was now time for the poker giants 888poker to leave the unstable online gambling market.
The company has started the process of informing their Australian players that their service will cease to operate as from the 16th of January 2017. The brand has also suggested to its customers to exclude them selves from any new tournaments which are starting after or are not finished until the announced date. Customers are also informed that all the Australian players will be able to withdraw their balance from the website's cashier page.
888poker have given the same reason as the Malta based casino Vera & John did earlier this month. The customers where informed that this decision was only the result of a business re-shuffle.
Unfortunately, unless the Australian authorities in charge of the online gambling market decide to give a good push to the new regulation review, more online gaming providers will follow the same foot steps of Vera & John and lately 888poker.
Under the current laws that govern online gambling in Australia, the only explicitly legal gambling service is sports betting. Theoretically, online casino games and poker games are not strictly prohibited, but however, this does not mean that they are legal.
Hopefully, the new legislation rules will make everything clear enough for online gambling operators of what will be legal and not but most importantly is how will online operators be regulated.
