The overhaul continues in Australia's online gambling industry, this time, the agreement and the establishment of the NCPF which stands for National Consumer Protection Framework.
Further to their new bill for amendment of the IGA 2001 (Interactive Gambling Act of 2001) earlier this November, Australia is determined to give a total overhaul on how online gambling is managed across the Nation.
In the attempt to fight social problems within the online gambling industry, last Friday, a member from the government led a meeting which included several other state officials. This meeting was all about a strategy to help the government in fighting risks and social harm from the online gambling industry which is increasing by 15% every year in Australia.
More then 10 strategic actions where discussed, 11 to be exact, of which one of them is the self-exclusion for online punters. This new strategy, which is already used in the UK and other various countries, will enable online gamblers to be able to exclude themselves from the gambling website as soon as they feel symptoms of early addiction.
Another strategy is the banning of the LOC (line-of-cerdit) to the customers. Line of credit is a means that some casinos use when "lending" money to the player of which he can have access to anytime he wants as long as the agreed maximum amount is not exceeded and any other requirements set by the casino to the player are met. The minister for Human Services Alan Tudge sad,
"By Allowing gambling companies to provide players with lines of credit, most of the time they continue betting until they go bankrupt. There fore gambling operators should be prohibited from acting as banks and have a safer gambling environment."
Amongst the other strategies discussed and which eventually will be adopted are the way that gaming companies advertise their products and services on television and any other mediums together with the review of how bonuses are advertised by operators to attract new gambling customers.
