This website has learnt from RBC.ru that Russian gambling legislators are planning to introduce a new blacklist type of law that will block any transactions from unapproved websites that offer online gambling services.
The proposed legislation is to be debated today and will eventually introduce a "black-list" of unauthorised websites. This list will then be sent to all the local payment companies so that all of them will have the facility to consult with this list to block any un authorised gambling transaction coming from any website which is listed.
It is believed that players from Russia spend almost $3 billion each year in gambling at online casinos residing outside of their country. If all goes through, this new legislation will be very similar to what there is available in the USA, mainly the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006.
This new request for legislation is said to be coming from Russia's finance ministry following an official request by Vladimir Putin so that players are motivated to spend their gambling money towards Russia's land-based casinos.
We will keep you updated with any further development.
